Sine is made by MAOI LLC, based in the United States. This page says what we collect and what we do with it, in plain words.

The app, without an account

Sine works fully without signing in. The first time you open it, we give your phone an account id: a random string with no name, email or phone number attached. Your answers, level scores, streak and settings are kept on your phone and copied to our servers under that id, so your progress is safe if something goes wrong on the phone and can move with you if you sign in later.

We also record a small number of events about how the app is used, under the same id: for example which of the opening pages you reached, whether the Sine score test was finished, and whether a subscription screen was opened. We use them to see where Sine is confusing or hard, and to make it better. They are ours alone; there is no third-party analytics service.

If you sign in

You can sign in with Apple, Google or an email link to keep your progress across phones. When you do, we add your email address and the name Apple or Google passes on to the account id you already have. Your practice data stays as it was: every answer, your level scores, your streak and your settings. We use it to show you your own progress wherever you sign in, and, added up across everyone with names removed, to improve the lessons.

This data is held for us by Supabase on servers in the United States. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to build a profile of you.

Encore

Encore is a subscription bought through the App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android. Apple or Google handles the payment; we never see your card or bank details. RevenueCat, the service that tells the app whether your subscription is active, keeps a record of your purchases against your account id. You can manage or cancel the subscription in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings at any time.

What we do not do

The app has no advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking. It does not read your contacts, location or photos. The microphone is used only in the singing levels, and only while you press Sing it: about two seconds of sound is analysed on your phone for its pitch and then discarded. It is never stored, uploaded or shared. Apple and Google may collect crash and usage data under their own policies if you have opted in on your device.

Deleting your data

Settings has a Delete my data button, whether or not you have signed in. It removes your account and everything stored with it from our servers, and clears the phone. You can also write to hello@learnsine.com and we will delete your data within 30 days. If you use the export feature, the file is created on your device and shared only where you choose.

This website

The site has one form, for ideas. What you send is kept so the person building Sine can read it, with your name or email only if you chose to add them, so we can credit you or reply. The form is processed by Netlify, which stores the submission on our behalf. Anyone who left an email address on the earlier waiting list can ask us to delete it by writing to hello@learnsine.com.

The site does not use tracking cookies. The browser version of the Sine score runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing.

Children

Sine is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
